Sizing is the process of adding materials to the paper in order to render the sheet resistant to penetration by liquids, particularly, water. Unsized or Waterleaf paper freely absorbs liquids. Writing, printing and wrapping papers are typically sized sheets as contrasted with blotting paper and facial tissue which are usually unsized.
Rosin, various hydrocarbon and natural waxes, starches, glues, casein, asphalt emulsions, synthetic resins and cellulose derivatives are some of the materials used as sizing agents. Rosin, which is refined from pine trees or stumps, is one of the most widely used sizing agents. Good sizing will influence paper life and this is the essence of improved sizing chemicals.
We made a beginning with fortified rosin soap and by constant upgradation, have the capability to produce and deliver sizing chemicals to cater to varying medium, be it acid, neutral or alkaline.
